Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Global Satcom Systems Engineer with expertise in data communications and satellite systems to support MOD/Government projects. This role covers the entire project lifecycle, from system design and installation to testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The position involves global travel and requires flexibility for short-notice deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Installation & Commissioning: Install, configure, and commission data communication systems, including routers, switches, and satellite terminals, for MOD/Government projects worldwide.
- Lifecycle Project Support: Collaborate in all phases of MOD Systems Engineering projects, ensuring design, prototyping, integration, and testing meet technical specifications and project requirements.
- Testing & Verification: Conduct structured testing to verify system designs, troubleshoot issues, and provide feedback for system enhancements.
- On-Site Support & Training: Deliver technical support and hands-on training for engineers and end-users, particularly in satellite communication and bespoke system solutions.
- System Administration: Manage the configuration and upkeep of secure communication networks, ensuring reliable system performance.
- Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including installation guides, testing protocols, and system configurations.
- Product Evaluation: Assist in evaluating new products and technologies, aligning them with company strategy and project requirements.
- Customer Demonstrations: Set up and demonstrate complex satellite and data communication systems tailored to customer specifications.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams, customers, and external partners to resolve technical issues and ensure project success.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience with satellite communication systems (DVB, Inmarsat) and a broad understanding of IT and network installation.
- Security Clearance: Must hold or be eligible to obtain DV (Developed Vetting) Security Clearance.
- Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers, teams, and stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues independently.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and travel on short notice to meet urgent project demands.
- Project Experience: Hands-on experience with system design, installation, testing, integration, and documentation in engineering projects.
- Qualifications: NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification in a related field is preferred; professional registration is a plus.
- Additional Skills: Knowledge of cryptographic equipment and secure communication practices, with strong time management and administration skills.
Additional Information:
This role demands independent work with minimal supervision, ensuring project tasks are completed within deadlines. The candidate must be prepared for global travel and short-notice responses to project needs. Essential equipment, including a laptop, mobile phone, and necessary software tools for remote access, will be provided.
